Demetria Devonne Lovato or Demi Lovato is a American singer, songwriter, actress and model. Demi was born on the 20 of August 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When her parents divorced in the late summer of 1994 she moved to Dallas Texas with her mom and siblings. Her mom is a former country singer. Her older sister Dallas is also a singer and actress. Her younger sister Madison was born in 2002. Her father stayed in New Mexico after the divorce so Demi didn't see him a lot as a child.
She began her acting career on the tv show Barney and Friends. Her co-star on that show was Selena Gomez. In 2008, Demi got her breakthrough when she played the lead role in the Disney Channel film Camp Rock. Later that year she signed a recording contract with Hollywood Records. She released her debut album, Don’t Forget, in september of 2008. It debuted at number one on the U.S Billboard 200 and sold over 540,000 copies. In 2009, Demi’s own television series, Sonny With a Chance started. Later that year her second album, Here We Go Again was released and reached number one on the U.S Billboard 200. Here We Go Again sold over 650,000 copies. Her single Here we go again became her first single to break the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 15 and was certified platinum.
After the release of additional films, for example The Princess Protect Project and Camp Rock 2, Demi Lovatos personal issues put her career on a break. Lovato had suffered from self harm, depression, an eating disorder called bulimia and being bullied before she went to rehab at the age of 18 in November 2010. When she had completed her treatment and returned home, she acknowledged her problems. She started to speak out about the self harm, eating disorder and that she had been ”self medicating” whit drugs and alcohol. She added that she had had a nervous breakdown and was diagnosed whit bipolar disorder during her treatment.
In April 2011, Lovato wrote an article for Seventeen Magazine, in the article she describes her struggles. In March 2012 MTV aired a documentary , Demi Lovato, Stay strong about her rehab and recovery. Her third album Unbroken in 2011 is about her problems.
Her fourth album Demi was released in 2013. It debuted third on the billboard 200 and its lead single Heart Attack became third on the billboard hot 100. Lovatos fifth album, Confident in 2015 debuted number two on the billboard 200.
Lovato has an MTV Award, thirteen Teen Choice Awards, five Peoples Choice Awards and two ALMA Awards. Demi was also cited for her dedication as a mentor to teens and young adults whit mental- health challenges at a National Children's Health Awareness Day. She has also become an advocate for the LGBT community. In 2014 she became the face for the Human Rights Campaign for Marriage Equality.
